The Challenge
At CRP, every subcontract manufacturing project presents its own unique challenges. Recently, a customer approached us with three steel components requiring PTFE lining for use in a corrosive process environment. The steelwork had already been manufactured and delivered to our facility, to line and return ready for service.
Our team determined that two of the components were suitable for lining using our established manufacturing processes. However, the third component presented significant manufacturing challenges that made effective lining impractical. Rather than simply rejecting the component, we found an alternative solution.
The Solution
Using the customer’s dimensional and process requirements, CRP’s engineering team redesigned the challenging component.
The new design was developed to:
• Accommodate the process requirements of the application
• Maintain the required interface dimensions
• Ensure reliable PTFE lining could be achieved
• Improve manufacturability and long-term performance
Once the design was approved, we manufactured steel work and . This allowed us to apply the PTFE lining using proven production methods while ensuring the finished product met.
Alongside the redesigned component, the two original steel items were successfully lined and completed as planned.
The Result
By taking a flexible approach, CRP was able to deliver a complete solution rather than allowing a manufacturing limitation to become a project obstacle.
The customer received:
• Two original components lined and ready for installation
• A newly engineered replacement for the third component
• A solution tailored to their existing steelwork
• Confidence that all three components would provide the corrosion resistance and performance required in service
