CRP Products, Brexit and CE Marking Statement

Background
As you will know, the UK voted to leave the EU back in 2016, a decision that will fully come into force at the end of the 31st of December 2020. Because all of CRP’s products come under the remit of the PED (Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU)), which was brought into UK legislation as The Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, this decision has implications for CRP and the markings we attach to our products. These are as detailed below:

Products sold into the EU
Under the PED almost all of our products are required by law to bear a CE mark. Part of being allowed to apply the CE mark is that we have a 3rd party NoBo (Notified Body) (who must be based within the EU) who audit our business on a regular basis. Up until the end of 2020, our NoBo has been BES (British Engineering Services), based in the UK. Due to their location, BES can no longer continue to act as our notified body. We have therefore transferred our business to IES (Irish Engineering Services) who will act as our NoBo going forwards. In practical terms, this means that we will continue to be allowed to CE mark our products and sell them into the EU, although the 4 digit NoBo number that appears directly after the CE mark will change.

Products sold into the UK
During 2021, it will continue to be acceptable to sell our products in the UK with a CE mark on them. We are therefore planning to do this.
Beyond 2021, the current UK government intention is to introduce a UKCA (United Kingdom Conformity Assessment) mark. At present, the exact way that this mark will work, what rules will govern its use, how it is to be applied, and who can act as a NoBo are unclear. It is hoped that this uncertainty will be resolved over the course of 2021. However, CRP will ensure that our products comply with whatever legislation is in force at the end of 2021 to allow us to continue to sell into the UK market.

Note re. Northern Ireland. As things stand, one of the acceptable options for selling products into Northern Ireland is that they are CE marked. CRP will follow this option, at least until the situation there has been more permanently resolved.
