Case Study - Vents with Integral Bird Screen

The Product/Service
Vents with Integral Bird Screen
Customer
Manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients
The Problem
The customer had a problem with birds attempting to nest in the rising pipework from vent lines. The gasses were mildly corrosive and therefore prevented the adoption of a simple mesh screen over the end of the vent pipework.
The Solution
CRP designed two vents for a 4 inch and 12 inch line. It was critical that the exhaust gasses did not choke the vent and it was therefore necessary to calculate the gas flows and the form of the mesh and nature of the outlet were determined by these calculations. The screens were manufactured with PVDF – an engineering fluoropolymer with good corrosion performance at lower temperatures. The bodies were formed from standard components, the mesh machined from sheet and the complete assembly welded together. The use of engineering fluoropolymers allows the fabrication of components to form complex rigid shapes without the need for supporting metalwork.
